Meghalaya has much to offer everyone, regardless of age, from its majesty to its distinctive culture, delectable cuisine, and adventurous activities. a region of north-eastern India, with its capital being Shillong. A lovely state has unparalleled natural beauty in all its manifestations.

Places to visit in Meghalaya.

Shillong.

commencing in Shillong often referred to as "Scotland of the East". This is also among Meghalaya's finest tourist attractions. You must put some of its stunning sights on your bucket list. the nice climate, clean air, and stunning Khasi Hills scenery.  

 

Cherrapunji.

The best time to visit Cherrapunji is during the monsoon when you can witness the lush green splendor, explore the caves, and go for a walk in the natural surroundings. Cherrapunji is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Meghalaya and is also known by the name Sohra.

 

Mawsynram. 

Then go to one of the moistest places on earth, which also holds the Guinness World Record for the most annual rainfall. Don't pass up the opportunity to visit Mawsynram, the location of the world's longest sandstone, if you wish to swim in beautiful lakes and hike along nature trails.

Kongthong, the singing village.

Then proceed to Kongthong, the "whistling village" of Meghalaya. The inhabitants employ whistling to communicate their messages in a distinctive tune, which makes it unique. It is a stunning village that should not be missed.

Dawki

Then head to Dawki, a town on Meghalaya's border where a lot of water sports are practiced. The Umngot River is one of the most visited tourist attractions because of its clear water.

 

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake is also known as a hub for water sports activity. It is always on the top of the list of attractions to do in Meghalaya. You can enjoy boating, kayaking, water cycling, fishing, and camping. Here you can also trek around the lake and visit the nearby attractions.

 

Mawlynnong Village

Visit Mawlynnong, the most pristine village in Asia, following that. To witness the natural beauty of the village, I would prefer to visit in the monsoon to appreciate its natural beauty, "The living-root bridge" of Nohwet, a representation of their "Khasi" tradition, is another location worth visiting in this village.

 

Nongpoh

Nongpoh is a town you came across while going to Shillong from Guwahati. So, if you are a nature lover and like to enjoy a quiet and calm place, then stop here and enjoy the beauty of nature. Also, make sure to visit the nearby attractions.

 

Jowai

Jowai if you want to go away from the chaos of the city, then visit the quaint calm town on the national highway and connect Meghalaya with Assam, Tripura Mizoram, and some parts of Manipur. Jowai is also bordered by a beautiful river, a breathtaking valley, waterfalls, and architecture.

Try the local cuisine of Meghalaya 

Also, try the local cuisine and the local drink which is made up of rice and beer which is featured in their everyday menu. The main food is rice. Meat and dried fish which is a non-vegetarian’s paradise. they eat wild animals also beef is popular in Meghalaya. Then try their one common traditional food which is Garo which includes rice with different preparations of beef, pork, chicken, and fish. 

Shop from local markets 

Shop at Bara Bazaar where you can find textile works, handicrafts, and souvenirs, and the bazaar is full of local artwork. 

Also find several crafts that are cane and Bamboo which is recognized not only in the national market but also in the international market the communities have a special skill in making such product like household furniture, furniture accessories, etc. from crane and bamboo which is a uniqueness in their own. Which attracts the tourist attention and is a prime occupation of the tribal people.
